Dick Shapiro has over 50 years of experience as a tax attorney. He began his employment with the Internal Revenue Service in 1959 as a Revenue Agent in the Hollywood, California office. In 1964, Mr. Shapiro became an instructor at the Internal Revenue Service Regional Training Center in Los Angeles. Mr. Shapiro then moved to the appellate division where he worked as an Appeals Officer. Mr. Shapiro left the government in 1968 to join Peat, Marwick & Mitchell where he became a senior tax manager. In 1972, Mr. Shapiro joined Kenneth Leventhal & Co. [now EY Kenneth Leventhal Real Estate Group ("EYKL")] where he became a partner in 1973. In 1995, Mr. Shapiro retired from EYKL and brought his extensive tax background and incomparable negotiating skills to the firm.

Mr. Shapiro specializes in handling “tax controversies” of every type at all administrative levels. His clients include corporate and individual taxpayers, shareholders, officers, partners and partnerships. Mr. Shapiro is a past chair of the California Certified Public Accountant Society Tax Accounting Conference, and of the Annual Real Estate Accounting Conference. Mr. Shapiro has lectured on tax issues and tax procedure matters. He has spoken on numerous occasions to professional and business organizations on various tax topics. He co-authored an article appearing in the University of Southern California Tax Conference on the tax aspects of “Original Issue Discount.”
